Vail to Breckenridge in 2014
January 13th, 2014, Breckenridge, CO– The Ultra Race of Champions (UROC), whose mission is to create the Ultrarunning World Championship, is excited to announce that, beginning in 2014, it will reverse direction of its point-to-point course annually. The UROC course is dependent upon US Forest Service approval.
Set for September 27th, 2014, the 100 kilometers course will begin at Lionshead in Vail, CO and finish in downtown Breckenridge, CO. The spectacular mountain course summits several passes, including the Ten Mile Range, and drops into the iconic mountain towns of Minturn, Copper Mountain Ski Resort, Frisco and Breckenridge. Should the point-to-point course not be approved by the US Forest Service, the 2014 UROC course will take place on one of the three Mountain Resorts on the current course (Vail, Breckenridge or Copper Mountain Ski Resort).
“This is a unique opportunity for the race participants to see the course in a totally different way every year,” says race director James Russell Gill III. “Participants who complete the race two years in a row will receive a Back-to-Back medallion. We expect that many of the 2013 participants will want to challenge themselves and run the course in the opposite direction.”
“The Ultra Race of Champions course is truly unique,” says Michael Wardian, UROC Elite Advisory Council member and winner of the 2008, 2009, 2010 fifty kilometers World Championship and the 2008 one hundred kilometers World Championship. “It offers tremendous challenges testing the skills of the best ultra runners from around the World. The course has also been designed with a European component by offering runners, spectators and media an opportunity to experience some of the most iconic US mountain towns. Changing the direction of the course each year will keep the competitors interested.”
The Ultra Race of Champions is open to everyone. Registration for the Ultra Race of Champions 100K and its two sister races, the Über Rock 50K and Cruxy Half Marathon will open on January 15, 2014 at 12PM EST at www.ultraroc.com.
