2019 Event Will Host USATF Indiana Half Marathon Championships
INDIANAPOLIS – (March 4, 2019) – Registration for the 2019 Indy Half Marathon at Fort Ben is now open. The event, scheduled for Saturday, October 5, takes place in Fort Harrison State Park and features a half marathon, 5K and Kids One Mile. As part of the opening special, participants can register for discounted prices of $50 for the half marathon and $20 for the 5K through midnight on March 5.
The start time for both the half marathon and 5K will at the 2019 event will be thirty minutes earlier than in previous years (now 8:00 a.m. and 8:25 a.m., respectively). The change was based primarily on customer feedback.
“An earlier start time will give our participants more favorable running conditions on race day,” said Jed Cornforth, executive director of Beyond Monumental, “It was one of the main suggestions we heard after last year, and we’re always looking for ways improve our experience for our participants.”
Runners and walkers who want an additional challenge can complete an INDYTHON – achieved by completing a half marathon or 5K at the Indy Half at Fort Ben, and a marathon, half marathon or 5K at the CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon on November 9. INDYTHON’ers receive an additional award for their efforts.
As part of a three-year partnership with USATF Indiana, the half marathon will host the USATF Indiana Half Marathon Championships, making the event a destination for regional elite open and masters athletes. Prize money will be awarded to the top three open athletes and the top three masters athletes (based on age-graded performances). 2018 Champions were Sarah Bishop (1:23:04) and Caleb Kerr (1:09:35).
