2018 GFNY Latin American Championship moves to Monterrey

NEW YORK CITY, June 7, 2017 – The global cycling marathon series, GFNY, continues to expand its brand in Latin America with the inaugural GFNY Monterrey to be held on February 25, 2018. Monterrey is renowned for outdoor sports and activities and will host riders at the 2018 GFNY Latin American Championship.

GFNY Monterrey will start at the famous Cintermex and take riders through downtown Monterrey and north to the top of Chipinque, the most challenging climb. It will offer a long distance route of 160km and a middle distance route of 100km. The long distance serves a 2017-2018 qualifying race for the racer corral at the 2018 Campagnolo GFNY World Championship in NYC.

“We are so excited to announce GFNY Monterrey as the 2018 GFNY Latin American Championship,” said Lidia Fluhme, President and co-founder of GFNY. “Mexicans have a great passion for life and all things cycling, it’s always so much fun to race in and travel to Mexico. Monterrey is a modern metropolis and will host a unique and memorable GFNY.”

The host town, Monterrey, is Mexico’s third largest city and offers a variety of outdoor adventures, boutique restaurants, nightlife and world-class museums – the perfect opportunity for families to travel together and enjoy a vacation before and after the race.

“It’s an honor for GFNY Monterrey to be selected as the GFNY Latin American Championship in 2018,” says Sean Gad, Co-Founder/Owner at Paradise Sports Management. “Monterrey native and former Tour de France stage winner Raul Alcala has worked with us to design a course that will highlight the must-see sights of Monterrey and one major, featured climb in the national park, Chipinque that showcases stunning panoramic views of the city. We can’t wait to see everyone in Monterey and host you for this amazing race and weekend.”
