Sarah Piampiano wins inaugural IRONMAN Vineman

(San Francisco, CA) – Sarah Piampiano used race best bike and run splits to become the inaugural winner of IRONMAN Vineman in Windsor, Calif. on Saturday 30th July, in a time of 9hrs 19mins and 5 seconds.

Having exited the swim with a deficit of 11 minutes from the lead of the race, Piampiano felt she had her best bike ride to date in an iron distance race: “I felt strong and consistent all the way through and, frankly, was a bit surprised, because of the time gap out of the water, to be at the front of the race before the second loop.”

Living just 45 minutes south of the race location, Piampiano was one of the local favorites on the course and post-race expressed her appreciation of the crowd support: “it was pretty amazing to be there surrounded by so many familiar faces and getting the support from so many.”

Having already earned qualification for the IRONMAN World Championships in Hawaii on October 8th, Piampiano will now turn her focus to training for that race: “my plan is a little break to recover from Vineman and then I’ll be heading to Kansas, where I trained last summer, for a 6 week block of training to lead me in to Kona.”
