Many People Feel Unsafe While Running. A New Wearable Aims to Change That

June 11, 2026

RunSafePro is a new smart safety vest designed for runners who feel unsafe outdoors, particularly targeting women, people of color, and those running in high-risk areas. The Netherlands-based startup launched the wearable on Kickstarter, combining four key safety technologies: rear radar detection to alert runners of approaching vehicles or cyclists, GPS emergency alerts with a panic button, automatic incident detection that triggers if a runner stops moving unexpectedly, and adaptive 360-degree visibility lighting.

The vest operates entirely in the background without requiring hands-on management during workouts. Built-in radar detects approaching danger from behind and alerts the wearer through both lights and vibration. If the wearer stops moving and doesn respond to the vest’s check-in prompt, an alarm automatically sends GPS coordinates to up to 50 pre-selected emergency contacts without any manual action needed. An accompanying app subscription starts at $0.99 per month, covering cloud infrastructure and GPS emergency messaging services.

Designed to look and feel like performance gear rather than safety equipment, the vest is breathable, washable, and adjustable for running, walking, and cycling. RunSafePro officially launches on Kickstarter on June 16, 2026, with early backer pricing starting at $119 and a planned retail price of $175. More than 4,500 runners have already signed up for the pre-launch waitlist, indicating strong demand for integrated running safety technology. Athletech News
