Los Angeles Olympic Games road events to finish on climb to iconic Griffith Observatory

June 10, 2026

All four Olympic road cycling events at the 2028 Los Angeles Games—the men’s and women’s road races and time trials—will finish with a short but demanding climb to Griffith Observatory on the southern slope of Mount Hollywood. This uphill finale, rising about 2 kilometers at 7% gradient, will make for a selective conclusion that favors climbers rather than sprinters.

The women’s and men’s road races start at Venice Beach Boardwalk and are scheduled for July 22 and 23, 2028, respectively. Women will tackle approximately 163 kilometers with 2,950 meters of climbing, while men face a 251-kilometer route with 5,010 meters of elevation gain, including the famous Rock Store climb—a 4-kilometre ascent with ramps up to 10%. Both routes venture into the Santa Monica Mountains before heading to Griffith Park.

The individual time trials, held on July 19, 2028, will start at the Los Angeles Zoo and also finish at Griffith Observatory, with both start and finish located within the Griffith Park Zone.  Cycling News
