(Logan, UT – February 15, 2019) Altra is now the Title Sponsor of the Tobacco Road Half Marathon, which takes place on Sunday, March 17, 2019, in Cary, North Carolina along with the Tobacco Road Marathon.
2019 marks an important milestone for the Tobacco Road Marathon and Half as they will reach
$1 million in charitable giving. Altra is proud to sponsor this event organized by an all-volunteer staff with 100 percent of proceeds going to charities like American Red Cross, Hope For The Warriors, JDRF and Triangle Rails To Trails Conservancy.
“I am so grateful to all our hundreds of volunteers and runners who make this event possible and enable the support we can give our charities,” said Kazem Yahyapour, Tobacco Road Marathon Founder. “We could not do it without them, our all-volunteer board and, of course, sponsors like Altra. To think that we will reach more than a million dollars in just the tenth running of our races is an achievement of which we are very proud. We like to say, ‘Nine years. Ten races. One million dollars!’”
The inaugural Tobacco Road Marathon and Half was held March 21, 2010. For 2019, Yahyapour expects more than 4,000 racers along with 7,000 spectators to make Cary, North Carolina their weekend destination for racing the half or full marathon.
About Tobacco Road Marathon and Half
The Allscripts Tobacco Road Marathon and Altra Half Marathon are the first of their kind to embrace the town of Cary, North Carolina, and Western Wake County. Both races are organized by a non-profit—501(c)(3)—organization dedicated with its sponsors to providing financial assistance to its partner charities by channeling the passions of runners everywhere, and particularly those in the North Carolina Triangle area, into a powerful force for good.
While working at a running store, Altra founder Golden Harper was frustrated that modern running shoe technology caused poor running form and had not decreased running injuries. His passion to create a shoe that followed the science produced Altra’s FootShape™ toe box, Zero Drop™ platform and Fit4Her™ female-specific shoes. Since its founding in 2011, Harper and co-founder Brian Beckstead have grown Altra from one to 30 shoe styles, winning multiple Editor’s Choice awards and distribution in more than 60 countries.
