(Logan, UT) Altra released an inspiring short documentary called “Balance” about the different sides of an ultrarunner. This video follows three Altra athletes in their pursuit of finishing the legendary Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run while balancing careers, families and their own personal running goals.
Altra athletes Nicole Kalogeropoulos Bitter, Kyle Pietari and Cory Reese all had different hopes going into the race. Bitter was attempting her third Western States finish, Pietari was going for another top 10 finish, while Reese was running his first ever Western States. Preparing for this race takes countless hours of early morning or late night runs, managing work and family schedules, and getting mental and physically ready for the challenging course.
“I am so honored to be included in this video by Altra Running with Kyle and Cory,” Bitter said. “My life is infinitely more wonderful with all the people who love and support me, giving me a sense of balance.”

While working at a running store, Altra founder Golden Harper was frustrated that modern running shoe technology caused poor running form and had not decreased running injuries. His passion to create a shoe that followed the science produced Altra’s FootShape™ toe box, Zero Drop™ platform and Fit4Her™ female-specific shoes. Since its founding in 2011, Harper and co-founder Brian Beckstead have grown Altra from one to 30 shoe styles, winning multiple Editor’s Choice awards and distribution in more than 60 countries.
