SAN DIEGO, Calif. — April 1, 2014 — ACTIVE Network celebrates the second year powering Hallowrun. The event was conceived by a group of kids passionate about raising money and awareness for the Food Bank of Central New York. After years of organizing the annual Halloween for Hunger Food Drive with her friends, Liz Westfall, the 15-year-old race director combined her love of running and an ambitious fundraising goal to create Hallowrun. The inaugural event, which took place last October featured a Halloween theme, complete with costumed runners and their zombie hosts. With the support of their community, Liz and her team surpassed their fundraising goal and drew in almost three times as many participants as the average first-time race event.
“We spoke with other race directors and they told us it would be too difficult for a group of students and we probably shouldn’t even try. We did it anyway,” said Liz Westfall, Race Director, Hallowrun. “ACTIVE’s system was really easy and allowed us to send all of the runner registration money directly to the Food Bank of CNY!”
