DELRAY BEACH, FL – July 25, 2017 – The duo of Justin Metzler and Jeanni Seymour edged out the duo of Trevor and Heather Wurtele to claim victories at Challenge Iceland, the world’s northernmost half distance race. It was the first professional win for Metzler, the 2014 USAT Triathlon Rookie of the Year. For Seymour, it marked her third win of the year following victories at IRONMAN 70.3 Liuzhou and IRONMAN 70.3 Monterrey.
Metzler ran down Trevor Wurtele and Jesper Svensson with a race-best 1:15:58 half marathon to win by more than two minutes. Seymour overcame a 4:47 deficit to pass Wurtele in the final 100m to win by a slim 0:20 margin, collapsing briefly just beyond the finish line.
Of the victory, Metzler remarked, “It felt fantastic to produce the strong and fast race that I knew I was capable of. To be there as Jeanni crossed the finish line following such a gutsy run, and to share the podium with her was beyond our dreams!”
Seymour added, “Celebrating Justin’s first professional win with him was incredible. We’ve trained together across thousands and thousands of miles and to see that work pay off for both of us at Challenge Iceland was really special.”
The duo will again race together at IRONMAN 70.3 Boulder. Then Seymour will head to the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Metzler to IRONMAN 70.3 Qujing in China.
