DELRAY BEACH, FL – January 5, 2017 – The professional triathletes represented by fortyninegroup, Timothy O’Donnell, Joe Maloy, Lauren Goss, Summer Cook, Jeanni Seymour, Drew Scott, Justin Metzler, and Rudy von Berg collectively raced 80 times in 2016, earning 29 podium finishes including a World Championship.
Olympian Joe Maloy had a banner summer winning Escape from Alcatraz in June then competing in July as the team anchor with Gwen Jorgensen, Ben Kanute, and Kirsten Kasper in Hamburg, Germany to earn the World Championship in Mixed Relay – a first for the United States. In August, Maloy competed as the top American qualifier and finisher (23rd) at the Rio Olympic Games. One month later, he was second at the Beijing International Triathlon.
Summer Cook, named by ITU as the Women’s Breakout Star of the Year, had four wins including her debut WTS win in Edmonton, the Chengdu World Cup, and the Tongyeong World Cup, and she defended her 2015 win at Tritonman. With race-leading swims and runs, she will be one to watch as she heads into her fourth ITU season.
Timothy O’Donnell produced his fastest time at the IRONMAN World Championship – 8:16:20. His 3rd place finish in 2015, along with 6th this year and 8th in 2012 and 2013, make him one of the most consistent World Championship athletes. O’Donnell’s season included a win at IRONMAN 70.3 Puerto Rico and a 3rd at St. Anthony’s Tri.
Lauren Goss returned to IRONMAN 70.3 Ecuador and Challenge San Gil to win both of those races for the second straight year. Goss won three races in 2017, and was on the podium at four of her nine races in 2016.
Jeanni Seymour finished top-four at 8 of her 9 races this year including two wins (IRONMAN 70.3 Xiamen and IRONMAN 70.3 Austin) and three second place finishes. Seymour posted fastest run splits at four of her races.
Rudy von Berg earned three podium finishes: IRONMAN 70.3 Miami (2nd), St. Anthony’s Tri (2nd), and Rev3 Quassy (3rd). Drew Scott, whose season was shortened by a bike accident, was 2nd at Challenge Penticton. Justin Metzler had three podium finishes, coming third at Challenge Iceland, IRONMAN 70.3 Xiamen, and IRONMAN 70.3 Cartagena.
“What a fantastic year 2016 was! We’re incredibly proud of each of our exceptional athletes and their commitment to training and racing as well as the partnerships they have with their sponsors, the ITU, IRONMAN and other key races,” said John Jones, CEO of fortyninegroup. “We’re truly honored to represent these outstanding athletes and look forward to their race seasons in 2017!”
