Oakland, CA (January 10, 2018) – Mascot Sports, a leader in one-of-a-kind endurance sports experiences, acquired the 28-year old Southern California Half Marathon and will relaunch the local favorite as the Irvine Half Marathon on Saturday, January 12. The newly-branded edition will also include a 5K event and honor many of the longtime race’s traditions. It will also include new experiential components that celebrate the active lifestyle and build community, hallmarks of every Mascot event.
“Not only do we want to bring the City of Irvine’s identity to this event, but showcase the perfect conditions of a Southern California January to the masses,” said Mascot Sports Founder and CEO, Ryan Dawkins. “It has historically been a hyper-local event, so we’re looking to put Irvine on the national event map and create a runner’s vacation in winter months.”
The beautiful, flat course will guide runners through community parks, the San Diego Creek, and the gorgeous tree-lined streets of Irvine before finishing at the Mike Ward Park.
Post race, for the first time in the event’s history, runners will celebrate at the KONA Brewing Finish Line Festival with a local collection of live music, food and KONA’s best brews. The festival celebration is open to the public and locals can come to cheer on the runners, experience Irvine hospitality and celebrate everything Orange County has to offer.
“Like every Mascot event, we’re looking to bring the runner experience to life and include some of the community’s most-loved locals to join us and celebrate the best of Irvine,” said Dawkins.
A new sponsor for the 2019 edition is Nuun, the Official Hydration Partner for Mascot Racing. Nuun will be on course to keep runners fueled with their electrolyte enhanced beverage options.
The Irvine Half will be the first event of the Mascot Sports 2019 slate which also includes the Livermore Half Marathon, Bay Bridge Half Marathon, Oaktown Half Marathon, Oakland Turkey Trot, and more.
