IRONMAN Foundation to Provide Support for Hurricane Florence Relief at UnitedHealthcare IRONMAN 70.3 North Carolina

TAMPA, Fla. (October 16, 2019) – In conjunction with the UnitedHealthcare IRONMAN® 70.3® North Carolina triathlon taking place on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2019 in Wilmington, N.C., the IRONMAN Foundation® will return to assist with Hurricane Florence recovery efforts. The support includes a partnership with Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity, where IRONMAN athletes and volunteers will assist with the demolition of a home damaged beyond repair by Hurricane Florence.
The IRONMAN Foundation will distribute $25,000 in charitable giveback to nonprofit initiatives and groups in the Southeastern North Carolina region. This includes a grant for $5,000 to the Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity to assist with ongoing efforts to rebuild and restore homes damaged by Hurricane Florence.
“IRONMAN is about creating a sense of community, and through the support and generosity of our athletes and partners we hope to be able to make a tangible difference in Southeastern North Carolina’s continued recovery from Hurricane Florence,” said Sarah Hartmann, IRONMAN Foundation Executive Director.
In addition, the United Way of the Cape Fear Area was granted $31,000 shortly after Hurricane Florence reached the area, bringing the IRONMAN Foundation’s Hurricane Florence giveback to $56,000 in the Southeastern North Carolina region.
The IRONMAN Foundation Community Fund provides community and volunteerism grant opportunities to nonprofit organizations where IRONMAN events are held. In 2019, the IRONMAN Foundation will distribute more than $1.8 million in grant funding to support the needs of IRONMAN race communities.
