Inaugural Mt. Soledad Hill Climb to Take Place Memorial Day Weekend in San Diego
May 8, 2026

New 1.8-mile uphill event combines physical challenge with purpose and remembrance
SAN DIEGO, Calif. /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The inaugural Mt. Soledad Hill Climb presented by Kaiser Permanente will take place on Saturday, May 23, 2026, offering participants a unique Memorial Day weekend experience centered around effort, reflection, and community.
The 1.8-mile (3km) uphill course begins at the base of Mt. Soledad and climbs steadily through La Jolla neighborhoods, finishing at the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial, a prominent San Diego landmark dedicated to honoring U.S. service members.
Designed to be more than a traditional race, the event welcomes participants of all fitness levels to make their way to the summit at their own pace. Participants can choose between two divisions: the Hill Climb or the Ruck Challenge, where participants carry a 40 lb pack (men) or 30 lb pack (women) to the summit. The weighted division is intended to reflect the physical demands and responsibilities carried by members of the military.
The event also features a Team Challenge, encouraging gyms, run clubs, military groups, and organizations to participate together and compete for recognition.
“Memorial Day weekend is a time for reflection, and we wanted to create an experience that brings people together in a meaningful and active way,” said Megan Allen, Marketing Manager at Easy Day Sports. “Whether participants are climbing with weight or simply making their way to the top, every step represents something bigger than the individual effort.”
Event Highlights:
- 1.8-mile continuous uphill climb through La Jolla
- Optional Ruck Challenge with weighted packs
- Finish at the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial
- Open to all fitness levels
All participants will receive an official event T-shirt, while those in the Ruck Challenge division will also earn a commemorative finisher medal and be eligible for division awards.
The event proudly benefits the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial. 100% of additional donations made during registration go directly to the memorial to support its preservation, expansion, and educational efforts.
