On Wednesday, British sprinter and ex-Olympic medallist Chijindu (CJ) Ujah was one of 10 suspects arrested in an investigation into cryptocurrency fraud across southern England. Ujah, a world 4x100m champion, two-time European 100m champion and Diamond League Final winner, is alleged to be involved with an organised crime group suspected of scamming victims via phone calls, pretending to be police authorities and cryptocurrency companies; he was charged with conspiracy to defraud.
“Victims are reported to have been tricked into sharing important security details, including seed phrases, before discovering funds stored in their crypto wallets had been stolen,” reads a report from the Regional Organized Crime Unit Network (ROCU). “One of the victims is alleged to have lost more than £300,000 (C$559,920).” CANADIAN Running Magazine
