A New Corporate Competition at the Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon
BOSTON – July 6, 2017 – The 2017 Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon is throwing down a friendly challenge: Can your company claim triathlon supremacy in Boston this year?
Boston’s only triathlon has launched the Boston Corporate Cup, a friendly competition between Boston’s most competitive corporate leaders. The Corporate Cup competition will take place as part of the 9th annual Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon on July 30, 2017 in South Boston.
Triathlon is fast-becoming one of the most popular sports for amateur participants, replacing other, more traditional sports such as golf and tennis. More than 500,000 triathletes participate in USA Triathlon-sanctioned events every year in the U.S.
Companies signed on to date include Ameriprise Financial, Columbia Threadneedle Investments and General Electric. All participating companies are encouraged to represent their brand with custom-designed apparel.
“We’ve always had a great participation from Boston’s corporate community and this year, we’ve decided to recognize those companies with a competition specifically for their employees,” said Michael O’Neil, president of the Boston Triathlon. “The Boston Corporate Cup offers companies a great way to encourage a more active and healthy workforce while engaging in friendly competition for bragging rights in Boston.”
The Corporate Cup is a chance for the corporate community to compete against one another while engaging employees in an active lifestyle. Participants can compete in the Sprint distance event as an individual or as part of a company relay team, completing a 750M swim, a 17.5K bike and a 5K run. Corporate Teams must be mixed gender, with a minimum of one female participant on each team. Entries will be ranked on a combination of performance and participation, with teams being scored by the top finishers in both the relay and the individual races, as well as the total number of participants a company enters in the race. The winning team will receive a custom-designed trophy as well as bragging rights for the next year.
Now in its ninth year, the Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon will take place in South Boston on July 30, 2017. Athletes from across the world, the U.S. and Boston are expected to compete in this unique and iconic event, which includes both Olympic and sprint distance races. The swim takes place at Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation’s (DCR) Carson Beach, a bike ride on DCR William Day Boulevard, and a run along the South Boston waterfront. In addition to the main race on July 30, a Kids Day will take place on Saturday, July 29, featuring a host of activities designed to inspire a future generation of triathletes. Race and registration information is available at BostonTri.com.
With more than 100 employees already registered, Columbia Threadneedle Investments is aiming for victory.
“As the title sponsor of the Boston Triathlon, we are looking forward to bringing our team and competing to win the Corporate Cup,” said Ted Truscott, chief executive officer of Columbia Threadneedle Investments. “Consider this is a friendly challenge to others in the Boston corporate community: Rally your workforce and come enjoy some good-natured rivalry in an iconic Boston setting.”
The Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon is also supported by City Sports, CLIF Bar, DRINKmaple, and Gatorade.
