U.S Navy To Power Spartan’s ‘Extra Mile’ In 2026-2027 Partnership Expansion
June 4, 2026
Ownership of the Spartan ‘Extra Mile’ and integration of the iconic Rope Climb bring the Navy's ethos of resilience and commitment directly to Spartan racecourses nationwide.
United States (June 4, 2026) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Spartan, the world’s leading endurance and obstacle course racing brand, has announced a key evolution of its partnership with the U.S. Navy for the 2026-2027 season, highlighted by the Navy’s official ownership of the Spartan “Extra Mile” on course.
As the Official Federal Government Services Partner of Spartan Race U.S., the Navy will bring its ethos of perseverance and commitment directly into the athlete experience through the “Extra Mile presented by the U.S. Navy.” Integrated as an optional extension of the racecourse, the Extra Mile is designed to test an athlete’s willingness to go beyond the expected-physically and mentally-after already conquering the core race.
Participants who choose to take it on will face a series of additional challenges that demand endurance, grit, and determination, pushing them to dig deeper when fatigue has already set in. More than just added distance, the Extra Mile represents a defining moment on course-where athletes make a conscious decision to exceed the standard, embodying the Navy’s core principle of pushing past limits in pursuit of excellence.
In addition to the Extra Mile integration, the Navy will also be featured prominently on one of Spartan’s most iconic obstacles: the Rope Climb. A true test of upper body strength, technique, and determination, the Rope Climb will be Navy-branded across events, reinforcing the shared values of discipline and resilience required both on the course and in service.
“The Extra Mile is more than just an added challenge-it’s a mindset,” said Spartan founder and CEO Joe De Sena. “That idea of pushing further when it would be easier to stop is exactly what the Navy represents. Bringing that to life on our courses, alongside the Rope Climb, creates a meaningful and authentic connection between our athletes and those who serve.”
“The Spartan ‘Extra Mile’ reflects exactly the kind of mindset we look for in the United States Navy,” said Rear Admiral James P. Waters, Commander, U.S. Navy Recruiting Command. “It’s the willingness to keep moving forward when things get difficult, to push beyond expectations, and to choose challenge over comfort. Our Navy is Forged by the Sea, and built by people who refuse to quit when the mission gets hard.”
Across the 2026-2027 season, participants at Spartan events nationwide will encounter these Navy-integrated course moments, alongside broader activations within festival areas where they can engage with sailors and learn more about opportunities within the Navy, specifically those related to Navy Special Operations, which includes SEALs, Aviation Rescue Swimmers, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technicians, Hospital Corpsmen, Divers, and Special Warfare Combat Crewmen.
