Tom Fowler, Former President of Polar, Joins Nix Biosensors Advisory Board
July 20, 2022
Fowler will advise Nix as it brings its first consumer product to market, a patch that analyzes sweat to provide real-time hydration guidance
BOSTON, MASS. — JULY 20, 2022 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Nix, the biosensor company delivering health and wellness data to consumers, today officially welcomes Tom Fowler, former president of Polar, to its advisory board. Fowler brings decades of experience in the health, wellness and sports performance industries, having led high-growth strategies at companies such as Polar, Nike, Cervelo, Wilson Sporting Goods, Intel, and more.
Fowler will help Nix grow in the industries where dehydration is most common, including sports, military, and labor-intensive work. Dehydration affects millions globally, but methods of measuring hydration are often complex, expensive, time-consuming, and unreliable. Nix’s first consumer product is a small patch that analyzes a user’s sweat in real-time, telling them when, what, and how much to drink, determining fluid losses, and electrolyte losses. Led by Founder and CEO Meridith Cass, Nix’s technology has been in development since the Boston-based company’s founding.
“Hydration management is a bigger problem than a lot of people realize,” says Fowler. “For more than 60 million endurance athletes in America, tracking hydration is currently a guessing game, with significant consequences occurring when they guess wrong. With all the other biometric data out there, hydration has remained the holy grail. Nix has the technology to bring accuracy and immediacy to hydration data that has never before been available.”
Fowler joins more than a dozen others on Nix’s growing advisory board, including accomplished business leaders (Ian Fitzpatrick, Global Head of Brand Strategy at New Balance), pioneering scientists (Dr. Bob Murray, the founder of the Gatorade Sport Science Institute), and world champion athletes (Dead Karnazes, legnedary ultrarunner and author). Nix is launching this summer in North America and has already booked more than $500K in pre-orders to date.
Nix is redefining how we manage health by developing biosensors that empower consumers to access, understand, and act on their personal biology at home. Nix’s first consumer product is a sweat patch that provides athletes, soldiers, and laborers with hydration data in real-time, helping them optimize safety and performance. Headquartered in Boston, Mass., Nix is led by Founder and CEO Meridith Cass, a graduate of Harvard Business School, former VC, and 9-time marathoner. Advisors include Dr. Bob Murray, Founder and former Director of the Gatorade Sports Science Institute, Ian Fitzpatrick, Global Head of Brand Strategy at New Balance, and Dean Karnazes, the ultrarunning legend, among others.
