Lance Armstrong launches Texas Hill Country Bike ride

Inaugural TEXAS HŪNDRED set for June 3rd outside Austin,TX

Austin, Texas – WEDŪ, the endurance sports platform spearheaded by Lance Armstrong, will present the first-ever TEXAS HŪNDRED, a non-competitive ride that measures 100 miles but is not your common century ride or grand fondo. Touring the sprawling ranches and wide-open spaces around Burnet (less than an hour outside of Austin), the HŪNDRED was designed to satisfy a healthy appetite for adventure on two wheels. Riders will encounter sweeping landscapes and some local wildlife, including zebras, ostriches, llamas and longhorns. There will also be a beginner-friendly 20-mile option, and all participants will be treated to the best after-party out there.

The course

Starting at Reveille Peak Ranch in Burnet, HŪNDRED riders will head west around Lake Buchanan and into the norther reaches of Texas Hill County, then wind around Cherokee and towards the lush river valley of Colorado Bend State Park. The loop course then heads back into Burnet County and the Lake Buchanan area. Long, rolling hills will challenge riders (total elevation gain is about 4,000 feet), but they’ll be rewarded with several fast, fun descents. There is an optional four-mile stretch of dirt/gravel near the finish for those looking for a bit more adventure and challenge. On-course support includes an aid station every 20 miles and roving Mellow Johnny’s mechanics.

The 20-miler also starts at Reveille Peak Ranch, which is surrounded by dramatic granite rock outcrops, and riders will be treated to expansive views of Lake Buchanan and The Hill Country before returning to the finish line at Reveille Peak Ranch.

The experience

After pre-riding the route, Armstrong called it “one of the best rides in Texas.” The 100-mile registration ($99) comes with entry into the ranch, a TEXAS HŪNDRED t-shirt, pint glass, cloth bib number, after-party with BBQ and beer, live music and a whole lot of camaraderie. The 20-mile entrants ($60 to register) receive ranch entry, pint glass, cloth bib number and access to the after-party.
