Boulder, Colorado, USA — January 6, 2020 — Women’s Running, the most popular resource for women runners, has named its 20 Power Women of the Year. The January/February issue of Women’s Running magazine honors 20 of the most influential women in elite running to watch in 2020. From rising stars to Olympic hopefuls, these runners are making the world a better place and setting the tone for the next generation of female athletes.

“Sport has the ability to change the world,” said Editor-in-Chief Jen Ator. “These women are proof of that. They are completely transforming what it means to be a dominant female athlete today.”

In the feature story “Front Runners: Power Women of the Year,” Women’s Running profiles runners across track and field, marathon, and ultrarunning. What connects these women is their commitment to racing, their perseverance through adversity, and their commitment to creating a better community for all women, of all abilities. Allyson Felix, the cover athlete for the January/February issue, leads the list for her outspoken advocacy of maternity rights as part of the “Dream Maternity” movement including Alysia Montaño and Kara Goucher. Mary Cain, whose shocking personal story revealed a systemic and toxic coaching culture in running, is named for sounding the alarm for the next generation. Desiree Linden earns a profile for her season of leadership and helping other Americans to break through and run their best.

In this selection of the most powerful women in running this year, Women’s Running proves that power is not just leading by example, but also using your voice to create change and bring others up with you.
