Without Limits™ Launches COVID Safe In-Person Events
October 28, 2020
Event production company builds strategic coalitions to bring events back to life.
October 28, 2020 – Wilmington, North Carolina. After months without in-person racing, the Without Limits team is thinking outside the box to produce safe events that are COVID-19 compliant.
“We eat, sleep and breath races, so when it became necessary to shut down live events we immediately went to work to learn what was needed to restart them safely.” Says Tom Clifford, President of Without Limits Racing. “Our new protocols have enabled successful events so far without any outbreaks and the participants are giving us extremely positive feedback. We are proud to be leading the way in both the running and triathlon industry, showing folks that this can be done right and athletes can race safely.”
By addressing both the pre-race activities AND the race day precautions, Without Limits has built a repeatable protocol that has already allowed over 1,000 people to participate in local events. If the event is cancelled due to COVID, all athletes will receive a full refund. Additionally, athletes will have the opportunity to defer their entry to a future event if they are not comfortable racing. As events come to fruition, masks will be worn by all volunteers and athletes (with the exception of while an athlete is running, biking, or swimming). Without Limits is using technology to get athletes to the start line for their specific start, preventing mass crowds at the start. All races have received local government approval for the courses to remain open longer, allowing staggered start times to stay within the guidelines. Finally, partnerships have been secured with local grocery stores to plan ahead for individually packaged foods and bottled water for both aid stations and post race activities.
“Without Limits continues to be an innovative partner in our quest to make it possible for all people to reach their highest levels of health. We are grateful for their remarkable contribution.” Says Dr. Philip Brown, the Executive Vice President and Chief Physician Executive at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, of the safety strategy.
Three additional events have been confirmed for 2020: The Without Limits PRO-AM Half, with a capped field of 50 amateur and pro athletes, in White Lake, NC. The Parkway Subaru Battleship Half Marathon & 10k in Wilmington, NC. The Shakori 40 Ultra, 40 mile, 40K and 40 mile team relay in Pittsboro, NC. Each event will follow the Without Limits protocols as well as any additional local precautions.
“We are proud of the work we have done to this point and very pleased to have received an endorsement from our local medical center on our plans to bring racing to life while preventing COVID spread.” Explains Without Limit’s Clifford. We look forward to welcoming athletes back to racing and providing them safe and fun events.”
