Thousands of Runners and Walkers Braved the Thanksgiving Day Rain at the 7th Annual Turkey Trot Los Angeles, Presented by UAE-USA United, Raising Nearly $50,000 for The Midnight Mission
December 2, 2019
(LOS ANGELES; December 2, 2019) – Two thousand brave runners and walkers battled the Thanksgiving Day rainstorm at the 7th annual Turkey Trot Los Angeles, presented by UAE-USA United on November 28, 2019. The popular turkey day charity run raised close to $50,000 for those in need for The Midnight Mission. Runners dressed as Thanksgiving turkeys, pilgrims and pies toughed it out in the rain with temperatures at 48°F; ran from the Los Angeles City Hall around Grand Park, passed the world-famous Disney Concert Hall, the Broad Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art, and down historic Spring Street.
This year’s event was hosted by model, actress, clothing designer and activist Joy Corrigan and was sponsored by UAE-USA United, Toyota, Capital One, CBS and Clif Bar. In addition, Bombas donated over 1,500 socks to The Midnight Mission. Funds raised will help people who are experiencing homelessness by providing accountability and structure to help them rejoin their communities.
This year’s first-place medal for the 10K went to Holly Lawrence, 29, a British triathlete whose time was 33:30 at a pace of 5:24min/mi. The winner of the 5K was Raul Arcos from Corona, CA who completed the course in 15:53 with a pace of 5:06. For a complete list of winner’s results, go to http://turkeytrot.la/results.
“We created the Turkey Trot LA for all Angelenos to join as friends and partners, and Be Grateful Together on a personal, civic and global level,” said Generic Events Co-Founder Brennan Lindner. “All runners, walkers and fans got to experience an amazing community event that had a direct impact on the continued epidemic of homelessness in Los Angeles.
“We were delighted to partner with Generic Events, The United Arab Emirates and Toyota for this year’s Turkey Trot,” said Mike Arnold, President & CEO of The Midnight Mission. “Here at The Midnight Mission, we help people regain self-sufficiency and combat the issues surrounding homelessness and gratitude in action will help create bridges to significant transformation. We are honored to be partnering with these extraordinary groups to raise awareness of the people who are living on our streets, hungry and without a home.”
Turkey Trot LA also featured the Widdle Wobble”(ages 2-12), a fun half-mile run around Grand Park, featuring a fantastic kid zone with face-painting and kid-friendly fun. Participants enjoyed memorable photo opportunities with the 20-foot tall turkey in front of the City Hall finish line.
This year, Turkey Trot LA runners filled Grand Park for a feather-ruffling post-event festival with music by DJ Cable. After the race, participants were treated to an early feast of food from Whole Foods, Clif Bar, Kevita, and Pressed Juicery.
