Commemorating the 20th anniversary of IRONMAN Wisconsin, athletes can anticipate special activities all week, including a Class of Parade, a signing wall, and a special award show style banquet that will honor the Best Male Performance, Best Female Performance, Most Inspirational Story, among other awards as athletes take home a commemorative gift to mark the occasion.

“Madison, Wisconsin is consistently voted as one of the top IRONMAN triathlon destinations of our global portfolio of events and we cannot be more pleased to be able to extend this partnership with the Madison Area Sports Commission to continue to bring IRONMAN events to this region for years to come,” said Elizabeth O’Brien, Managing Director for The IRONMAN Group. “While we previously announced that the event would be moving to a summer date, we collectively listened to athlete and community feedback and are glad to keep with tradition and the historical September date. We’re looking forward to hosting the 20th celebration with two amazing IRONMAN-branded events in one weekend next year.”

Madison, Wisconsin and the surrounding region will host a half-distance IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon and a full-distance IRONMAN triathlon on consecutive days. Athletes in both events will complete the swim portion of the event in Lake Monona. Once out of the water and on the bike, the athletes will bike around south-central Wisconsin. The bike course features long climbs where crowds gather and fast downhills where bike handling skills are showcased. To finish their race, athletes will run through downtown Madison, inside the iconic Camp Randall Stadium, and around the University of Wisconsin campus that runs along the shore of Madison’s Lake Mendota before hitting their finish line at the footsteps of the Wisconsin State Capitol, a beautiful and unique midwestern race experience on the IRONMAN circuit.

“We are excited that IRONMAN Wisconsin is returning to Madison in September 2022 and beyond,” remarked Jamie Patrick, Vice President of Madison Area Sports Commission. “The 2022 race will feature an IRONMAN Festival weekend with both half and full distance triathlon races. This new festival format is the perfect way to celebrate 20 years and counting of one of the favorite race sites for IRONMAN athletes around the world.”
