The Hotel Zags Bolsters Leadership Team with New Hire
Portland, Oregon (Aug 17, 2021) – The Hotel Zags, a new boutique hotel in Downtown Portland focused on outdoors immersion, inclusivity and exceptional guest experience, is thrilled to announce the appointment of Rachel Wilson to the role of General Manager. Ms. Wilson brings an exceptional background in boutique hotel operations to The Hotel Zags and the Sage Independent Hotel Collection and will support The Hotel Zags in its commitment to providing an authentic, diverse and unique Portland experience.
“I am thrilled to welcome Rachel Wilson to the team at The Hotel Zags as our new General Manager,” said Felicia Rahm, Director of Sales & Marketing. “Her resilience, inclusive leadership style and commitment to building and nurturing a strong team fully aligns with our core values. She is a strong leader with a track record of proven success and we are beyond fortunate to have her.”
Wilson joins Sage Hotel Management most recently from Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants where she held the leadership positions of general manager and assistant general manager at the Hotel Vintage Portland. In this role, she won Best Director of 2020 from the Pebblebrook Hotel’s Annual Pebby Awards, raised the guest satisfaction scores to reflect the hotel’s exceptional service, and created a workplace culture that allowed its staff to learn and grow. Wilson’s operational leadership experience also includes positions held as front office manager with Benchmark Hospitality at the Spanish Garden Inn, Santa Barbara, CA as well as guest services manager on Duty for the Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach, CA.
Wilson received her formal education from California State University Channel Islands where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications. In her free time, Rachel and her wife Kelly love to attend live sports events and are Portland Thorns FC season ticket holders. She also loves spending time outside, playing soccer, hiking and snow skiing, and plans to continue to expand and support The Hotel Zags outdoor offerings for guests and local community alike.
“I love what I do every day,” said Wilson. “I am humbled and grateful to lead this team into the future and cannot wait to see what The Hotel Zags can accomplish in the coming months. We have a great product and more importantly an amazing staff who bring their personality with them to work every day, helping our guests get the most out of Portland.”
The Hotel Zags, situated in Downtown Portland’s Fountain District, reopened in Spring of 2021. The hotel aims to explore the relationship between nature, art and play through a unique Portland lens and supports their community through partnerships, locally-focused programs and events and personal relationships.
