GFNY racing on two continents this Sunday, September 3rd
NEW YORK CITY, August 31, 2017 – The GFNY Global Marathon Cycling Series heads to Indonesia in South East Asia and Germany in Europe this Sunday, September 3rd.
GFNY debuted in Indonesia in 2017 and now returns to the popular tropical tourist destination of Lombok as the GFNY Asian Championship. GFNY Indonesia’s 168km long course is a qualifier for the racer corral at the 2018 Campagnolo GFNY World Championship in NYC. As the Asian Championship, the top 20% (vs the usual 10% at other GFNYs) will qualify for the championship racer corral.
1000 riders from 34 nations can expect a humid day in the saddle paired with picturesque coastline and ocean breezes over a predominantly flat course. One mountain pass with elevation of 350m and over a dozen short steep climbs will challenge riders as they compete against themselves, each other and the clock.
“GFNY Indonesia provides cyclists in South East Asia the chance to experience a mass participation cycling race for all ages and abilities,” said GFNY CEO, Uli Fluhme. “We are very proud to be a part of growing the sport of cycling in this region.”
On the other side of the globe, in the German town of Hameln, 500 riders will take on the second edition of GFNY Deutschland on completely closed-to-traffic roads. The long route covers 164km with 2135 meters of climbing and will serve as a 2017-2018 qualifying race for the racer corral at the 2018 Campagnolo GFNY World Championship in NYC. On crossing the finish line in Hameln, participants will be treated to a traditional post race ‘recovery’ of beer, sausage and fries.
“We are excited to return to Germany for the second year. Hameln and the surrounding towns have truly embraced the GFNY ‘Be A Pro For A Day’ spirit offering fully closed roads and a fun post race celebration where riders can relax, eat, drink and exchange their story’s of the day,” said Lidia Fluhme, President and co-founder of GFNY.
GFNY is the global cycling marathon brand with events held in NYC, Argentina, Bali-Indonesia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Germany, Lombok-Indonesia, Italy, Jerusalem-Israel, Malaysia, Cozumel-Mexico, Monterrey-Mexico and Uruguay.
Riders get to BE A PRO FOR A DAY by competing against others, themselves and the clock in a personal endurance challenge.
At all GFNY events, riders have the chance to qualify for the elite racer corral at the GFNY World Championship in NYC by placing in the top 10% (20% at regional championships) of their age group.
