The 2021 Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon Returns August 28-29, 2021

May 3, 2021

Registration is Now Open for Boston’s Only Triathlon

BOSTON – May 3, 2021 – In accordance with the announcement last week from Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker reopening Massachusetts for racing events, ethos, the mass participation event organization that produces the Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon, is announcing the annual event will return on August 28-29, 2021. Registration is now open at www.BostonTri.com

“Like many other event organizers, we were disappointed in not being able to bring our community together for the 2020 event due to the pandemic.  Over the past few months, we have been working directly with the Massachusetts Lt. Governor Karyn Polito and her team to help craft a “Safe Return to Racing” plan for races statewide,” said Michael O’Neil, president of the Boston Triathlon.  “We are grateful for their thoughtful approach and our community is excited to get back to in-person racing. As we prepare to host the 12th Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon at the end of August, we will continue to work with city and state officials. This year’s race will give our motto ‘Swim, Bike, Run, Celebrate’ a new meaning!”

The Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon typically takes place a month earlier. This year, the race will move to the end of August, allowing more time for race participants, volunteers, vendors, organizers and the community to receive vaccinations as well as to follow all city and state guidelines.

“We have always prioritized the health and safety of all the athletes, volunteers, spectators, and the community and that will not change,” continued O’Neil. “We have developed new safety protocols as a result of COVID-19 that will be integrated with federal, state and local guidelines, and we are confident that we can deliver a safe event.”

The weekend-long event brings together athletes of all ages and abilities to compete in Olympic and sprint distance triathlons.  All events take place at the DCR’s Carson Beach, a stunning venue in the South Boston waterfront.  Additional information is available at BostonTri.com.

Columbia Threadneedle Investments, a leading global asset management group, is the title sponsor of the Boston Triathlon. And once again, ethos and Columbia Threadneedle Investments are working closely with the event’s charity partner, Boston Medical Center.

Charitable money raised will advance Boston Medical Center’s work in health equity and addressing social determinants of health. After taking care of patients who were disproportionately affected by COVID-19, BMC is leading efforts to shift the health care landscape and break the chronic cycle of disease burdens dictated by race, ethnicity, ZIP code and income. BMC is doubling down on its commitment to being an advocate and partner to all patients by expanding safety-net programs and building upon community partnerships and health equity programming. This will yield better health outcomes, educational advancement, economic mobility, housing and career opportunities, resulting in happier and healthier individuals, families and communities.

Triathletes have the option to participate in the Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon as part of Team BMC, the hospital’s athletic fundraising team. To be notified when the team’s application opens, interested applicants can visit development.bmc.org/team-bmc-registration.
