Texas Rangers Reporter Emily Jones Will Be The ‘Last Woman Running’ At This Year’s BMW Dallas Marathon Festival

October 6, 2021

Texas Rangers reporter Emily Jones has taken on the challenge of being this year’s ‘Last Woman Running’ at the 2021 BMW Dallas Marathon Festival weekend, where she will be the very last person to cross the starting line of the half marathon on Sunday, Dec. 12.

(DALLAS) – Texas Rangers reporter Emily Jones has taken on the challenge of being this year’s ‘Last Woman Running’ at the 2021 BMW Dallas Marathon Festival weekend, where she will be the very last person to cross the starting line of the half marathon on Sunday, Dec. 12.

Each year, the BMW Dallas Marathon selects one person for the challenge. The goal is for the selected individual to try and pass as many race participants as possible in the half or full marathon. For each person Jones passes, Andrews Distributing will donate $1 to Scottish Rite for Children.

“We are excited to see Emily Jones on the course” said Bob Walker, president and CEO of Scottish Rite for Children. “Her commitment to Scottish Rite with Last Woman Running means more people learn about Scottish Rite for Children and its mission for caring for kids.”

Jones said that while she was hesitant to accept the challenge at first because she runs at a slower pace, she couldn’t turn down the opportunity to raise money for such a worthy cause. She is also looking forward to having her husband, Mike, run with her for moral support.

“I’m really excited to participate,” Jones said. “I think anything that promotes fitness right now is a good thing. I also think it’s important to promote worthy causes like Scottish Rite for Children  that make people feel like they are part of something special. The Dallas Marathon is definitely something that promotes that positive feeling through running groups and other things.”

A familiar face on Texas Rangers telecasts, Jones is the field reporter for the majority of the Bally Sports Southwest’s home telecasts and a select number of road broadcasts. Prior to joining the Texas Rangers, Jones worked full-time for FOX Sports Southwest on a variety of the network’s programming from 2004 to 2013. She and her family currently reside in Fort Worth.

This will be Emily’s third half marathon. She enjoys running daily for mental health, and she usually logs between 35 and 40 miles per week.

“We are thrilled to have Emily participate as our ‘Last Woman Running’ this year,” said Paul Lambert, president of the BMW Dallas Marathon Festival. “She is helping to bring people together in the spirit of health, fitness and community, as well as raise funds for Scottish Rite for Children. We fully support her and know she is going to do great in this role!”

Jones joins an all-star roster of former participants of the challenge. Past runners have included Mark Phillips, former host of 99.5 FM The Wolf; Colleen Coyle, WFAA meteorologist; Corby Davidson, host of KTCK-AM The Ticket; Gina Miller, former CBS-11 sports reporter; and more.

“Being the 2019 Last Man Running gave me an opportunity to use my passion for running to help the kids at Scottish Rite for Children,” said Mark Phillips, currently the program director and afternoon personality at 92.1 Hank FM in Fort Worth. “Seeing the cheers from the other runners and the crowd along the route made it all worthwhile. They inspired me to keep going those last five to six grueling miles.”

For those who would like to support Jones’ efforts, runDallas has set up this link for people to donate on her behalf. For updates on her progress, visit @runDallasTX on Facebook and Instagram.
