Supersapiens Powered by Abbott Libre Sense Glucose Sport Biosensor and Wahoo Debut First-of-its-Kind Integration

October 21, 2022

Supersapiens and Wahoo team up to develop direct integration between Supersapiens and select ELEMNT GPS bike computers allowing for real-time visibility to sustain peak performance without the need for a phone

ATLANTA, 21 October 2022 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Supersapiens, the world’s first glucose management system for athletes powered by Abbott Libre Sense Glucose Sport Biosensor, is announcing a groundbreaking integration with Wahoo’s New ELEMNT ROAM and BOLT that allows for real-time glucose visibility. This historic integration is being designed to connect the Abbott Libre Sense Glucose Sport Biosensor directly with the most recent Wahoo devices, no longer requiring a phone to serve as the bridge.

Through a partnership with global healthcare leader Abbott, Supersapiens is developing innovative technology and insights around glucose data from the Abbott Libre Sense Glucose Sport Biosensor to help athletes to make more informed nutrition decisions around training and recovery. Supersapiens is the world’s first glucose management system for athletes and global exclusive distributor of the Abbott Libre Sense Glucose Sport Biosensor, which helps athletes visualize the connection between their glucose levels and perceived energy levels and guides them on ways to adjust behaviors to improve recovery and performance.

“Since launching Supersapiens in late 2020, we have been driven to improve our users’ experience continuously. One thing athletes kept asking for was live integration without needing to carry a phone during a ride. Thanks to the dedication of the team at Wahoo and the ongoing commitment from Abbott, we can bring this live visibility during rides directly to our community,” says Founder and CEO Phil Southerland. “Supersapiens will continue to evolve so that we can always provide an unmatched innovative experience to our athletes and will remain committed to meeting our community where they are: out there on the roads, in the pool, on the pitch, and beyond.”

“Creating seamless integrations with like-minded partners is key to the success of the Wahoo range of GPS bike computers. Being able to deliver on the simplicity promise that ELEMNT provides with this unique Supersapiens integration that makes real-time glucose visibility a reality without the need for a phone keeps us true to our purpose of helping to build the better athlete in all of us.” said Mike Saturnia, CEO at Wahoo

Allowing athletes to have minute-by-minute glucose data during a ride without requiring a phone helps them quickly identify the correlation between glucose levels and performance. In addition, visibility into this data allows athletes to stay within their Glucose Performance Zone, which helps them avoid ‘bonking’ or ‘hitting the wall’ due to low glucose availability.

“Supersapiens and Wahoo are both Atlanta-based companies and we owe a tremendous amount of credit to the Founder of Wahoo, Chip Hawkins, for the genesis behind our company. I had approached company after company aiming to get glucose data on a head unit; Chip made the impossible a reality when he connected glucose data via Bluetooth to the Wahoo ELEMNT BOLT in late 2018,” explained Southerland. “By overlaying exercise data consistently and accurately with glucose data, this was my a-ha moment, connecting the dots with glucose levels, fuel management, and exercise performance. Supersapiens was born.”

Hawkins has served as one of the early supporters and investors of Supersapiens, coming in during the company’s early-stage funding round in early 2021.
