Amtrak offering flash sale for travel taking place between Nov. 11 and Nov. 29
RICHMOND, VA – For the first time, the VCU Health Richmond Marathon has teamed up on a sponsorship with Amtrak to serve runners traveling to Richmond for the November 16 race. To make it easier for participants to get to Richmond for race weekend, Amtrak is currently offering a flash sale for a 50-percent discount on tickets for travel taking place between November 11 and November 29. The sale runs through 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, and details on the sale, as well as terms and conditions, can be found at https://www.amtrak.com/fall-getaway.
With trains serving both the Main Street Station and Staples Mill Road Station in Richmond, the Amtrak flash sale offers a great opportunity for race participants and their families to book their travel for the event, or for family and friends of Richmond-based participants to get to town for all the weekend race festivities.
“We are excited to partner with Amtrak for this year’s events and believe it will bring great value to our participants,” said Megan Schultz, race director for Sports Backers and the VCU Health Richmond Marathon. “We are always looking to offer innovative travel solutions before, during, and after our events so this will be an easy way for participants and their families to plan their travel and celebrate their accomplishments on race day.”
Celebrating its 42nd running in 2019, the VCU Health Richmond Marathon, along with the Markel Richmond Half Marathon and Allianz Partners 8k, typically draws participants from all 50 states and a dozen countries to Richmond. Recognized as ‘America’s Friendliest Marathon’ by Runner’s World magazine, the race offers a flat, fast course, enthusiastic spectator support, frequent aid stations, and a downhill finish to provide a positive experience for all participants. The race has also been recognized by the Boston Athletic Association as one of the top 25 qualifying races for the Boston Marathon.
Registration is currently open for the marathon, half marathon, and 8k. More information on the events, as well as a complete schedule of events for race weekend, can be found at www.richmondmarathon.org.
