Spartan Bringing 2022 Kids World Championship to the Bahamas

November 15, 2021

Globe’s toughest junior Spartans to be crowned outside U.S. for first time; epic family-friendly event to include adult City race and more

BOSTON, Mass. /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Spartan, the world’s leading endurance sports and extreme wellness brand, announced today that it will hold its Kids World Championship at the world’s most remarkable resort destination, Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas, on August 25–28, 2022.

It is the first Kids World Championship event in nearly three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. And for the first time, the Spartan Kids World Championship will be run outside the United States at a world-renowned resort.

At the championship race — scheduled for Saturday, August 27 — the globe’s toughest junior Spartans will encounter approximately 26 obstacles along a 2.99-mile course of sand, hardpack, water, and cement. The race will feature qualified athletes in two age groups (9–11 and 12–14) competing in boys’ and girls’ heats for a share of $20,000 in prizes and the title of Spartan Kids World Champion.

“These kids have proven themselves to be the best of the best in our sport,” said Spartan founder and CEO Joe De Sena. “They’re fast. They’re tough as hell. They’re unbreakable. They’re all in for an adventure, testing their limits at one of the world’s most amazing destinations. But only four will go home with the title. Let’s do this.”

“The accomplishments of these young athletes speak volumes about their incredible talent, dedication, and commitment to the sport,” said Audrey Oswell, President and Managing Director, Atlantis Paradise Island. “We look forward to welcoming the athletes, parents, coaches, and fans to cheer on these mighty competitors and share our authentic Bahamas at Heart hospitality.”

Kids World Championship weekend will also feature a fast-paced Spartan City for parents and adults. Participants in the City will race three to five kilometers through the resort and onto the beach, braving challenges such as the gauntlet, paracord crawl, and six-foot wall.

Other kid- and family-focused activities include: boat excursions; daily workouts and workshops; influencer meet-and-greets; the parade of nations; open heats of a half, one and two miles for individual athletes and families; and an inclusive heat for Spartans who may have an intellectual and/or physical disability to ensure a fun, safe and engaging experience while accommodating any sensory impairments.

Participants will also have access to the world-class amenities at Atlantis Paradise Island.

About Atlantis Bahamas

Atlantis Paradise Island is a lush, oceanside resort located on Paradise Island in The Bahamas. A dynamic destination that launched over 25 years ago as a first-of-its-kind modern marvel of nature and engineering, Atlantis is tied to a meaningful connection with the ocean, Bahamian culture, and the spirit of the property’s beloved team members. The resort’s new, immersive programming connects guests to the rich history, art, people, food, and festivities of The Bahamas.

Atlantis features six distinct properties, from the iconic The Royal to The Beach and The Coral to the luxury properties, The Cove and The Reef. The resort is built around Aquaventure, an innovative, 141-acre waterscape of thrilling slides and river rides, pools, and white sand beaches. Home to the largest open-air marine habitat in the world, over 50,000 marine animals from 250 species make their home in ocean-fed environments. From unparalleled meeting and convention space to the luxury Atlantis Marina accommodating yachts up to 240 feet overlooking Marina Village, a Bahamian marketplace, the Atlantis experiences are endless. Other resort amenities include the 30,000 sq ft tranquil Mandara Spa, Atlantis Kids Adventures (AKA) for children ages 3-12, and CRUSH, a cutting-edge teen club. The award-winning 18-hole Tom Weiskopf designed golf course, renowned Atlantis Casino, and duty-free shopping complemented by restaurants and lounges with celebrity chef culinary masterpieces including Fish by José Andrés, Nobu, by Nobu Matsuhisa; Olives, by Todd English and Casa D’Angelo by Chef Angelo Elia.

Dolphin Cay, the resort’s 14-acre marine mammal habitat, is a state-of-the-art education center and animal-rescue rehabilitation hospital whose first residents were 17 rescue dolphins from Hurricane Katrina. Visitors to Dolphin Cay can participate in creative, non-disruptive “interactions” that build real awareness, stir emotion, and help fund the resort’s conservation efforts. Through these guest participations and those offered through Atlantis Marine Adventures, a portion of the cost of each of the on-property interactions goes back to the Atlantis Blue Project Foundation (ABPF), the resort’s nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization dedicated to saving sea species and their extraordinary habitats throughout The Bahamas and surrounding Caribbean seas.
