GFNY Global Cycling Marathon Series heads to central Florida for a family friendly, scenic destination race

NEW YORK CITY, February 6, 2020 – An eagerly anticipated third GFNY race in the USA has been announced. Hosted in Sebring, in Central Florida, GFNY Florida Sebring will offer a 132km long route and a 90km medium route on fully police-controlled or closed roads, as is standard for all GFNY World races.

Sebring is home to nearly 100 crystal clear lakes, vast citrus groves, cattle ranches, the Sebring International Raceway and one of Florida’s oldest state parks. The gentle rolling hills, low-volume traffic roads and charming small towns make GFNY Florida Sebring an ideal late-season race and cycling vacation destination.

GFNY Florida will offer two distances. Both start in historic downtown Sebring, a century plus old city that was uniquely built around a circle park. The competitive long course distance is 132km. The medium, non-competitive route is 90km.

The gentle rolling course will traverse old Florida charm as riders pass through native Florida ‘scrub’ habitat and cattle ranches before heading out on to a loop that incorporates rolling hills through miles of iconic Florida orange groves. The post-race Finish Village for both distances will be at the Sebring Civic center, where festivities, post-race meal and awards ceremony will take place.

The top 10% of finishers in each age group qualify for the Racer Corral at every GFNY World event, including the Qualifier Corral start at the GFNY World Championship in NYC on May 16, 2021.

“GFNY was looking for a destination that is off the beaten path and can showcase authentic, natural Florida to their race participants,” said TDC Chairman and Highlands County Commissioner Jim Brooks. “I feel we are the perfect fit for their rider demographic and the event also ties in nicely with our racing heritage.”

GFNY Sebring will also offer GFNY Kids Sebring Florida. Open to children 2 years to 13 years old, GFNY kids can now also Be a Pro For a Day.

The 10th annual GFNY World Championship New York will be held on May 17, 2020. The race features the world’s most international peloton with riders from over 90 countries. Athletes take on a challenging 100-mile route from NYC to Bear Mountain to Fort Lee to compete against each other, the clock and themselves in a personal endurance challenge.
