Salty Sports Society Announces Another Successful AMI Hogfish Swim

May 31, 2024

Course changes due to weather conditions prove successful for the third stop on the 2024 Speedo SALT Series on Anna Maria Island, FL.

Fernandina Beach, Florida /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The 5th Annual Speedo SALT Series, AMI Hogfish Swim took place during challenging weather conditions leading to course changes.

Facing a westward wind direction, with gusts of up to 22 miles per hour, on Anna Maria Island, FL, Salty Sports Society staff made several course adjustments in the spirit of water safety. With course changes including swim direction, replacement of buoys, and repositioning of water safety personnel, the event took place to the thrill of all athletes.

“This weekend was the perfect example of why we prepared several contingency plans months in advance with the cooperation of Manatee County Marine Rescue officials. We have had several near perfect weather weekends during our last few races, so we were due for a test.” said Matt Dunn, Salty Sports Society Co-Founder.

This year’s event saw a 19% increase in registered swimmers as compared to the 2023 race. Thus, proving how excited endurance athletes are to get back to racing and showcases the continued growth for the sport of open water swimming.

“Successful open water swimmers are known for being adaptable and open minded. This is a perfect example of the spirit of our athletes,” Dunn stated.

The creation of a digital Athlete Guide distributed the week of the event allowed for continued distribution of event information to all registered swimmers and sponsors alike. “Many thanks go to our Series title sponsor Speedo, Sharkbanz, Divios sunscreen, Beine Wellness Building, and of course the Bradenton Area Sports Commission, Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Manatee County Ocean Rescue Division for their continued support of the AMI Hogfish Swim,” said Dunn.
