RRCA is gearing up for another entertaining and educational National Convention, New Orleans style ~ laissez les bon temps rouler
Arlington, VA– After celebrating an amazing 60 years of growing the sport of distance running in 2018, the RRCA will embark on its next decade with the 61st RRCA National Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana, scheduled for March 28-31, 2019. The event concludes on Sunday March 31 with the 18th Annual A Run Through History, benefiting Save Our Cemeteries.
The RRCA National Convention consists of two full days of highly-relevant education sessions designed to spot light best practices for club leaders, event directors, coaches, and running enthusiast that volunteer and work in their local running communities. Special keynotes speakers at the RRCA Convention luncheons include Golden Harper and Michael Wardian.
Golden Harper, co-founder of Altra Running, started running as soon as he left crawling and has never looked back. Golden was raised in his family’s running store, where he was always trying to improve the running experience. He studied Exercise Science at two Universities, where he was particularly focused on biomechanics, kinematics, and coaching. Curiosity and research led him to create ZeroDrop technology in 2009—by heating existing shoe models in a toaster oven, cutting out the midsoles, and leveling the cushioning platform. Following years of tinkering and testing prototypes, Golden, and his business partner, Brian Beckstead, were ready to share their innovations. Altra’s unique core technologies—FootShape, ZeroDrop, and Fit4Her—made their debut in 2011. What began with a few stores in the US, Altra is a now household name with runners, experiencing significant global expansion.
Michael Wardian is an American marathoner and ultra-marathoner. Wardian has participated in the 2004, 2008, and 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials Men’s Marathon, recording a personal best of 2:17:49. In addition to a lengthy list of podium finishes at marathons, half-marathons, 50k /100k and 100 Mile races, Michael has set world records for: Fastest time for 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days; fastest marathon and 50K on an indoor 200-meter track, fastest Marathon as Spider-Man & Elvis, fastest Leadville 100 mile and Pike’s Peak marathon double, fastest ever time for all the Abbott World Marathon Majors consisting of the Tokyo Marathon, Boston Marathon, London Marathon, Berlin Marathon, Chicago Marathon, New York Marathon in an average time of 2:31:09, fastest 50K on a treadmill, and more.
