FORT COLLINS, COLO. (November 1, 2016) – Today, organizers of the highly anticipated Fortitude 10K Labor Day Classic announced the opening of registration for the inaugural race taking place September 4, 2017.

The FORTitude 10K is a collaboration among organizers of the renowned BolderBOULDER, named “America’s All-Time Best 10K” by Runner’s World magazine, and the The City of Fort Collins, Visit Fort Collins, the Fort Collins Chamber of Commerce, and Colorado State University.

“In staying true to our commitment to making this race a community event in Fort Collins, we sent e-mails to our BolderBOULDER runners in the northern Colorado on Friday, October 28, 2016, so that they would have the first opportunity to register before we opened registration to the entire BolderBOULDER database,” said race director, Cliff Bosley. “We know this race will sell-out and we want to give runners in Fort Collins the chance to truly make it their race.”

The first registrant for the FORTitude 10K was well-known and influential Fort Collins runner Libby James. James who is a member of the Fort Collins running club just recently shattered the U.S. women’s 80 year old masters’ record at the USATF Masters 5K Championship with a time of 25:11. The previous record was 29:23. James, a long-time BolderBOULDER runner, sets a course record almost every year, and in 2016 she also broke the women’s 79 age group record with a time of 55:06.67!

“As a member of the northern Colorado running community, I am so excited to be a part of Fort Collins’ newest racing tradition,” said James. “I believe the Fortitude 10K will bring the university, city and community together in a completely new and unique way and I am proud to be involved.”

The FORTitude 10K will take runners on a scenic yet altitude challenging course through Fort Collins, passing landmarks like City Park and the CSU Oval, as well as weaving through picturesque Avery and Mountain Ave. neighborhoods. The race will finish at the newly completed Sonny Lubick Field at CSU Stadium, and will be the first chance for the community to experience the stadium.
