Record numbers for GFNY Latin American Super Sunday

GFNY is in South America this Sunday, March 18 for a double helping of events in Colombia and Uruguay
NEW YORK CITY, March 15, 2018 – GFNY Colombia and GFNY Uruguay take place this Sunday, March 18 in a Super Sunday of events that will showcase some of the best Latin American riders in the world.
The 4th edition of GFNY Colombia will see the best in Colombian cycling battle it out over a grueling 148km course with 2439 meters of climbing that finishes atop the 3353m-high La Cuchilla, the highest altitude reached at any Gran Fondo race in the world. The medium route follows the same course for 98km with the exception of the final mountain climb. The event is hosting a record crowd of 2200 riders from 26 nations taking part.
Colombia is an uber-trendy destination right now, with many media outlets from all over the world coming to cover the amazing experience at the fourth annual GFNY Colombia. What makes GFNY Colombia so special is the passion for cycling by the Colombian people combined with a festive atmosphere during all aspects of the race, from the pre-race expo, to the race morning, lasting the full day until the post-race cultural performances and podium awards.
1000 riders from 13 nations are set to take part in the 3rd edition of GFNY Uruguay in the swanky Latin American resort, Punta del Este.
Uruguay may not have the mountain climbing of Colombia but it does have relentless rolling hills throughout the 171km long route with 1879 meters of ascent. Riders will be tested to the max from km61 all the way through to km105, with a mix of undulating climbs. The medium route is 84km with 681 meters of ascent.
Starting out from Punta Del Este, riders will get to experience cycling through the heart of the town and along the beautiful coastal roads, then riding by scenic ranches and through villages before returning to the finish line at Punta Del Este’s premier hotel, Enjoy! Punta del Este and the OVO Beach Club.
The women’s race at GFNY Uruguay will feature 10-time GFNY Champion, Camila Cortes of Colombia, who will be taking on GFNY Uruguay for the first time.
At both GFNY Colombia and GFNY Uruguay, 10% of finishers in each age group in the long route will qualify for the Racer Corral at the 2018 Campagnolo GFNY World Championship in NYC on May 20th.
GFNY is the global cycling marathon brand with events held in NYC, Bali-Indonesia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Germany, Samosir-Indonesia, Jerusalem-Israel, Cozumel-Mexico, Monterrey-Mexico, Panama, Poland and Uruguay.
Riders get to BE A PRO FOR A DAY by competing against others, themselves and the clock in a personal endurance challenge.
At all GFNY events, riders have the chance to qualify for the elite racer corral at the GFNY World Championship in NYC by placing in the top 10% (20% at regional championships) of their age group.
Campagnolo GFNY World Championship NYC
The 8th annual Campagnolo GFNY World Championship New York will be held on May 20, 2018. The race features the world’s most international peloton with riders from over 90 countries. Athletes take on a challenging 100-mile route from NYC to Bear Mountain to Fort Lee to compete against each other, the clock and themselves in a personal endurance challenge.
