Race Against the Pros in ROUVY’s “Real Spring Classics” – 5-day Digital Race Series for Amateur and Professional Cyclists

March 22, 2020 - With over €1,000 of Prize Money up for grabs, professional and amateur cyclists alike will be competing virtually on real-life race courses of the canceled events. The racing scene is quiet lately with the cancellation of many events due to COVID-19 so ROUVY provides a feasible alternative to stay in shape and have training fun in the lockdown.

March 22, 2020 – With over €1,000 of Prize Money up for grabs, professional and amateur cyclists alike will be competing virtually on real-life race courses of the canceled events. The racing scene is quiet lately with the cancellation of many events due to COVID-19 so ROUVY provides a feasible alternative to stay in shape and have training fun in the lockdown. 

Racing starts on Monday, March 23rd virtually in Sumava National Park on the digital course of the canceled Šumavský MTB maraton České spořitelny. The race course is a part of the MTB series KOLO PRO ŽIVOT and beginning at 17:00 UTC (12:00 CST/Chicago), more on race.rouvy.com. Cyclists and triathletes of all levels can test themselves against the likes of Ondřej Cink, the Czech Republic Olympian and World Cup professional. Like many of us, Ondřej is cooped up at home during this pandemic and welcomes the challenge from all, amateurs or professionals!

“The ROUVY Real Spring Classics series is definitely very interesting for me at the time of the coronavirus. All races are currently canceled, so it will be nice to race at least like this from home on the simulator and thus keep in good shape. I had a chance to experience online racing at Prague’s demo-race and think it will be a lot of fun, because the starting list is filled with interesting names,” noted Ondřej Cink. “I look forward to the Mont Ventoux route in Provence,” he added.

Additional riders slated to race in this 5-day race series include local World Junior Champion runner-up Tereza Sásková, well known MTB Marathon World Champion runner-up Kristian Hynek, Czech Champion Jana Pichlíková, and one of the best Junior XC Skiers on the circuit Barbora Havlíčková. In addition to bringing in these great athletes, ROUVY is pleased to offer over €1,000 of prizes, Peter Sagan’s signed Green Jersey sponsored by ŠKODA We Love Cycling, along with prize packages from Lawi, Nutrend, and ROUVY.

Cyclists wishing to participate in the Real Spring Classic series must have a smart trainer, bike, and device capable of using ROUVY, such as a phone, tablet, computer, or AppleTV, connected to the Internet. A valid ROUVY account is also required and new riders are offered a 45-day free trial to be part of the action.

“We want as many cyclists as possible to compete with us. The current situation made it impossible for them to go to training camps in Italy or Spain, some of them in quarantine and no one knows when they will be able to go out and for real races. With us, they can shorten the waiting for the cycling season and have fun.” says Petr Samek, CEO.

The races start at 17:00 UTC (12:00 CST/Chicago) and will be live-streamed and commentated on the ROUVY YouTube channel.
