Myers Defends Her Title Against a Strong Field In Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 2, 2019) – Pasca Myers won the 2019 Indy Women’s Half Marathon on Saturday, Sept. 28, becoming the only two-time champion of the race in its recent history on an extremely warm and humid day. Myers, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, took home the trophy in a time of 1:17:21, as well as the top cash prize of $750. Race organizers recognized the high caliber of elite runners in the race this year and responded by awarding the largest purse in the race’s history, giving cash prizes to the top 20 finishers in the half marathon and the top three finishers in the 5K.

Katie Ruhlman of Dayton, Ohio finished second in the race with a time of 1:19:50 and Sara Ibbetson of Ozark, Missouri rounded out the top three with a time of 1:20:30.

The top 10 runners in the half also included:

  • Fourth – Britney Whitehead of Chicago, 1:20:53
  • Fifth – Sarah Pease of Indianapolis, 1:21:16
  • Sixth – Sara Winslow of Louisville, Kentucky, 1:23:11
  • Seventh – Sarah Bishop of Dayton, Ohio, 1:23:25
  • Eighth – Erin Vergara of Zionsville, Indiana, 1:23:47
  • Ninth – Christina Johnston of Xenia, Ohio, 1:24:25
  • Tenth – Vanessa Righeimer of Chicago, 1:24:39

Kelsey Duerksen of Indianapolis won the Indy Women’s 5K in a time of 17:57. This year’s race included near record registrations and runners from 35 states, with six states represented in the top 10 finishers.

“2019 was certainly one of the deepest fields of elite runners we have ever had at the Indy Women’s Half and we are so excited that we have been able to draw these talented runners to Indianapolis,” said Race Director Todd Oliver. “We look forward to continuing to grow this race and showing the country that Indianapolis is a solid destination for competitive racing.”
