Women’s Running Apparel Brand Partners with a Pioneer in Saudi Arabian Sports
April 16, 2015, Seattle, Washington – Oiselle, a women’s running apparel company, is honored to add Sarah Attar to their athlete roster. Attar joins Oiselle as a sponsored athlete and a pioneer in Saudi Arabia sports. As she prepares for her third Boston 2 Big Sur Challenge this weekend, she is excited to start the partnership in a meaningful way.
While she has a sub 3:30 marathon PR and completion of the 50k ultra marathon distance, Attar’s story of influence goes far beyond her race times. She competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London as one of the first female Olympians representing Saudi Arabia. A fitting partnership, Oiselle embodies the strong and motivated woman runner and now represents a growing community of athletes and fans who see the opportunity for positive change in the sport of track and field. Attar joins Kara Goucher, Lauren Fleshman, Kate Grace and several other elites who make up the growing Oiselle running family.
Not only were the 2012 London Olympics the first time Saudi Arabia sent women, it was also the first time that all countries had women athletes represented in the Olympic Games. Receiving a standing ovation from the Olympic stadium during the last 100 meters of her 800-meter race, Attar was proud and humbled by her pursuit.
Attar is a recent graduate of Pepperdine University where she studied art, art history and multimedia design, while also running on the track and cross-country teams. She has completed countless half marathons, five marathons and a 50k ultra marathon. After completing her first marathon in Big Sur in 2012, she qualified for Boston and ran the 2013 Boston Marathon, completing the Boston 2 Big Sur Challenge. Despite the tragic outcome of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, Attar returned in 2014 to experience the #bostonstrong movement and is excited to return to race in 2015 as well.
In 2014, Attar was awarded the Arab Woman Awards KSA in the category of sport. This awards ceremony honors women in Saudi Arabia in various categories. In addition to the incredible honor of this award, Attar was given the opportunity to speak to an auditorium of over 700 girls and fully understand the power of her inspiration and influence. Asking which of the girls would someday like to participate in the Olympics, every single girl in the room raised her hand. It was a moment Attar will remember forever, and it is motivation to keep working hard.
Asked about her goals for her running, Attar said, “I run to explore what I am capable of and to explore the world. We are all capable of so much and I love how running allows us to push those boundaries. It allows us to inspire and connect with others, pursue what we are passionate about, and it gives us strength in all areas of our lives. And, maybe most importantly of all, running has allowed me to make a difference.”
“We are honored to partner with Sarah Attar,” said Sally Bergesen, Founder and CEO of Oiselle. “She is an incredible advocate in the sport of track and field and we could not be more excited to join the team.”
