OAKLAND, CA (April 23, 2018) – The Oaktown Half Marathon, a summer favorite, will augment its 2018 edition with three new events. In addition to the Half Marathon and Festival on Sunday, Aug 12, the Oaktown Half will now include a Twilight 5K, Youth Mile for ages 7-18 and a “Stomper’s Stomp” for ages 2-8 with the A’s Mascot, presented by the Oakland Athletics on Saturday, Aug. 11. There will also be an Oaktown Challenge for Half Marathon runners who participate in the 5K. Registration opens Monday, April 23, with $5.00 5K entry fees for the first 50 people. Special pricing for all events will be in effect for a limited promotional time as well:
- Oaktown Challenge: Half Marathon + 5K: $99
- Youth Mile: $20
- Stomper’s Stomp Presented by the Oakland Athletics: $10
- 5K: $5.00 for the first 50 participants, $10 for the next 50
The Oaktown Half is in partnership with the Oakland Turkey Trot and the move to extend the Half Marathon weekend stemmed from the success of the family-friendly Thanksgiving Day event, launched in 2017.
“Ever since we announced the Oaktown Half in January, people in the community have been asking us to add a 5K component,” said race owner and CEO of Mascot Sports Ryan Dawkins. “The new events creates an opportunity for whole families to get involved and enjoy this special summer tradition in the city of Oakland.”
The Oaktown Half celebrates its fifth anniversary in 2018 and relaunches under Dawkins, the event’s original founder. From the steps of City Hall in Frank Ogawa Plaza and Jack London Square to Uptown and Lake Merritt, the refreshed event will showcase the best of Oakland. The Oaktown Finish Festival will also feature food and craft beer from the some of the community’s most-loved locals to aid in runners’ celebrations.
