December 27, 2018
Registration limited to 1500 runners, opens January 1 at 11:11 a.m PST
OAKLAND, CA (December 27, 2018) – Mascot Sports, a leader in one-of-a-kind endurance sports experiences will make history on May 5, 2019, with the announcement of the Bay Bridge Half, the first-ever half marathon across the Bay Bridge. The race will be limited to 1500 runners to give athletes a highly premium, locally curated experience with partners including Oaklandish, Old Kan Beer, Calavera, the Oakland Athletics, top local chefs and more. Registration will open January 1 at 11:11 am PST with early bird pricing of $111 for the first 500 registrations.
In 2002, the same team founded the U.S. Half Marathon across the Golden Gate Bridge in partnership with the 2012 Bid to bring the Olympic Games to San Francisco. Ever since the renovation of the new Bay Bridge, the team, now based in Oakland, has had its sights set on the event. This year, after working with nearly a dozen entities over the past 11 months, the dream became a reality.
“We’ve been on this journey for nearly a year with the mission to bring a one-of-a-kind, fresh experience to our hometown, one that bucks the status quo and features not only the first round trip across our fabled bridge, but a local, immersive experience,” said Mascot Sports Founder and CEO, Ryan Dawkins. “Even better, our inaugural year just so happens to fall on Cinco de Mayo. It’s going to be an incredible celebration as we revel in making history.”
The race will start in West Oakland and give runners a wide, fast and fun few miles before arriving at the entrance to the bridge path. As athletes proceed toward Treasure Island, they’ll enjoy sweeping views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and the ever-evolving San Francisco Skyline. On the return, they’ll have a front row seat to Oakland’s infamous cranes, town-scape and beautiful rolling hills.
As the race will put runners over the beautiful San Francisco Bay for more than 50% of the route, Mascot will also partner with HydraPak and its SpeedCup, along with healthy hydration company NUUN, for an environmentally friendly, zero-waste 13.1 miles.
