Team Volken to raise funds and awareness at race for addiction recovery and life-skills training centre; Second annual race to take place October 23-25 with two-days of running
VANCOUVER, BC –May 19, 2015 – Rock ‘n’ Roll Oasis Vancouver Half Marathon today announced that the John Volken Foundation will return for its second year as the Official Charity of the event. To kick off training for the race, John Volken Foundation is hosting a fun run followed by yoga on Sunday, May 31st at 8:30 am at the Denman Running Room (679 Denman, Vancouver).
The John Volken Foundation is a non-profit organization that operates the John Volken Academy, a long-term residential drug and alcohol treatment center that provides life-skill training, vocational skills development, and education. The John Volken Foundation’s endurance training and fundraising program, Team Volken, will help participants rock the half-marathon or 10k all while raising awareness and funds for the Academy.
“We strive to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle not only for our students but everyone in our community,” said John Volken, founder of the John Volken Foundation. “Partnering with this race allows us to follow through with that idea by getting our company, students and team members out there to run or walk in support of raising awareness and funds for addiction recovery.”
Team Volken provides participants with a training plan, coaching, personalized fundraising website, pre-race team pasta party, and VIP finishers’ zone, among other benefits in support of the young men and women striving to rebuild their lives. The Rock ‘n’ Roll Oasis Vancouver Half Marathon & Cunningham Seawall 10k, along with the Official Charity John Volken Foundation, will kick off race weekend with a two-day Health & Fitness Expo on Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24.
Celebrating its 45th anniversary, the Cunningham Seawall 10k returns to its original Saturday race date this year. The 10k course encompasses the famous Seawall loop around Stanley Park, which it has traditionally done for the last 45 years.

The 2nd annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Oasis Vancouver Half Marathon will run through downtown Vancouver and around Stanley Park on Sunday, October 25. The 45th annual Cunningham Seawall 10k was moved to Saturday, October 24, to create two days of running and the opportunity to take on the Remix Challenge, which awards a third medal for completing two days of running. John Volken Foundation is the Official Charity of the event. The races will feature live bands and entertainment, motivating fanfare and themed water stations along the scenic courses. A free two-day Health & Fitness Expo kicks off race weekend. The event concludes Sunday afternoon with a finish line celebration and concert in Devonian Harbour Park at the entrance to Stanley Park.
