“When developing our IRONMAN 70.3 race calendar, offering athletes the highest quality triathlon racing experience in unforgettable destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, is at the heart of our planning,” said Thomas Veje Olsen, Managing Director of Europe, Middle East, and Africa for The IRONMAN Group. “I can’t wait to celebrate the sport we love with athletes from around the world in these two incredible locations.”
All-new Greek IRONMAN 70.3 experience
The inaugural IRONMAN 70.3 Vouliagmeni, Greece will take place on October 23, 2022. Athletes will enjoy the mild weather of the Athenian Fall, in the scenic area of the Athens Riviera. The famous Vouliagmeni seaside town is located 20km from the cultural centre of Athens.
Mike Argyris, race director said, “It is with great joy and enthusiasm that EY ZHN Sports together with The IRONMAN Group announces the newest IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon to be held in our country.”
‘’We are blessed to live in a beautiful country, where sports and culture were born, grown and flourished like nowhere else in the world. IRONMAN 70.3 Vouliagmeni, Greece will be hosted in the enchanting Municipality of Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni, the most beautiful suburb in Athens, and we expect to create a world-renowned event,” continues Argyris.
Athletes will complete a single-loop swim in one of the most popular Greek sandy beaches, the Vouliagmeni – Varkiza beach, looking into the serene, crystal-clear waters of the Athens Riviera Bay. The bike course will be a magnificent, rolling coastal two-loop course towards the emblematic Ancient Temple of Poseidon passing through traditional fishing villages and breath-taking cliffs. Finally, the two-loop run course also follows the coastline, heading to the Lake Vouliagmeni, a real treasure of Greek nature, with yearly warm waters and healing properties.
IRONMAN 70.3. Vouliagmeni, Greece will offer qualifying slots to the 2023 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship taking place in Lahti, Finland on August 26 – 27, 2023. General Registration for the Greek event will open on Tuesday, January 18, 2022.
The Fjords of Norway adds an IRONMAN 70.3
The inaugural edition of IRONMAN 70.3 Sandnes in Norway is set to take place on July 3, 2022. Athletes will race at the gateway to the Fjords of Norway. The region is known for deep mystic fjords, spectacular waterfalls, picturesque city centres, long sandy beaches, and world-famous monuments of the Viking heritage.
