Hyland’s to Celebrate Community Builders in 2020 Boston Marathon®

February 24, 2020

Mirna Valerio to Host Hyland’s Team of Changemakers in Boston

LOS ANGELES – February 24, 2020 – As humans, our friendships, families, and other social ties have always been critical to our wellbeing. Because our connection to community has such a huge effect on our health, this year Hyland’s, a century-old leader in products to support a healthy, active lifestyle, has chosen to celebrate community builders. As the Official Cramp Relief Sponsor of the Boston Marathon®, Hyland’s will show its gratitude to this powerful group of Americans by bringing a hand-picked team to one of the world’s most coveted starting lines.

On Marathon Monday, 18 of these community change makers will join Team Hyland’s for the 124th running of the Boston Marathon. Ultrarunner, speaker, and author Mirna Valerio will act as host for the Hyland’s team in Boston, leading the storytelling about this year’s inspiring team. Now an official Hyland’s sponsored athlete, Mirna Valerio (the “Mirnavator”) ran the 122nd Boston Marathon as part of the Hyland’s Powered Teachers’ Team.

The 2020 team brings together some of the country’s most inspiring and devoted community builders. A sampling of the #HylandsPowered team roster includes: Rafael Ortiz– co-captain of the national organization Black Men Run and founder of the Phoenix chapter; Liza Howard – champion ultrarunner and veterans’ advocate who started Band of Runners; Craig Mitchell – Los Angeles Superior Court Judge, founder of Skid Row Running Club, and CNN Hero 2019; Kelly Herron – survivor, founder of Not Today, and Runner’s Worldcover athlete; Tyrhee Moore– talented mountaineer, adventurer, and founder of Soul Trak Outdoors; Sasha Wolff– founder of mental health advocacy group Still I Run; and Nesan Kistan, a Salvation Army officer who moved mountains to build a 225-bed emergency homeless shelter for his county.

“Hyland’s is proud to build a team of athletes to conquer the world’s most prestigious road race,” says Hyland’s Senior Brand Manager, Lisa Shapiro. “This year’s team is bigger than ever. Over the years, we’ve celebrated women, teachers, and healers, and we are so excited to honor these community builders. They are connectors, advocates, fundraisers, and ultimately, changemakers. Amazingly, each team member is also a dedicated runner, balancing community, work, and family with a grueling training schedule.”

From a teachers’ team in 2018 to a healers’ team in 2019, Hyland’s supports community athletes so they in turn can continue to help and support others. Each campaign team becomes an extension of Hyland’s mission, representing the best of service and love, and united by a common passion for running.
