Gran Fondo New York Inc. announces inaugural GFNY Argentina to be held on December 6, 2015

April 16, 2015

NEW YORK CITY, April 16, 2015 – San Luis is Argentina’s cycling hotbed so it’s certainly no coincidence that the inaugural  GFNY ARGENTINA will be held there on December 6, 2015. The Tour de San Luis professional race in January has become one of the early season key preparation races. Participants of GFNY Argentina will truly get to Be a Pro for a Day because many of the race crews working for Tour de San Luis will also be at GFNY Argentina.

December is summer in Argentina, with 15 hours of daylight and comfortable temperatures, in other words: the perfect cycling conditions. The two course options of 91miles/147km and 56miles/91km offer exceptional riding and racing for anyone.

The city of San Luis is the capital of San Luis Province. It was founded in 1594 and is located at the foot of the “Sierras Grandes” (big mountains) by the river Chorrillos in the area called Punta de los Venados. The city keeps the traditional features of the colonial style with big rambling houses, big residences, high canopies and sunny patios and combines those with a modern style. Neighboring picturesque towns and villages embedded in stunning landscape as well as the warmth of the people make San Luis the ideal place to relax.

“Campagnolo Gran Fondo New York has always been the role model for our granfondo here in San Luis,” says Delfina Frers, founder of GFNY Argentina. “Being part of GFNY allows us to show San Luis to cyclists from around the world. Our goal is to provide an experience that changes their outlook on cultures, traveling, training and racing.”

GFNY President Lidia Fluhme adds: “Delfina is our ideal partner for a GFNY event: she understands different cultures and their expectations. Yet, she loves her home and is proud to show it to our GFNY riders, which ensures an amazing experience. Delfina is a former professional race car driver and currently owns a women’s pro cycling team. The sport needs more women like her.”

GFNY Argentina offers two distance options: a 91mi / 147km long route with 6,230ft / 1,899m of climbing and a medium route of 56mi / 91km with 5,426ft / 1,654m of climbing. While only few are in the hunt for the overall win, there will be many aiming to finish among the top 10% of finishers in their category to qualify for a racer corral spot at the GFNY Championship in NYC on May 15, 2016.

Campagnolo Gran Fondo New York’s goal is to bring GFNY WORLD events to countries that are hotbeds for cycling. Whether it’s a new or an already existing event, each is required to adhere to the standards of a true Gran Fondo: they must have road closures or police moderated intersections to allow riders the right of way, individual chip timing and rankings based on finish time. All GFNY events also offer a consistent high-quality experience, ensuring cyclists a safe, challenging and enjoyable experience from start to finish. Applications can be sent to Uli Fluhme at
