Ventoux on the menu for opening stage

NEW YORK CITY – The global cycling marathon series, GFNY, adds a second stage race to the GFNY World calendar. After announcing the new 3-day stage race format of GFNY Italia last month, now a second 3-day stage race is added, GFNY Provence in France on September 30 – October 1, 2017. Riders of GFNY Provence get to compete over three challenging and beautiful stages including various cols, most notably Mont Ventoux on day one.

“Having two stage races in 2017, GFNY Italia and GFNY Provence, is a great addition to our growing offering of events and personal quests to our riders,” says GFNY CEO Uli Fluhme. “We love stage racing and the unique challenges it brings. Racing over multiple back-to-back days adds a unique combination of preparation for various weather, maximizing recovery and displaying mental and physical fortitude. We’re so excited to see this aspect of the GFNY World series growing due to demand from our riders.”

The host town, Montbrun-les-Bains, is destination frequented by cyclists and famous for its spa treatments, an ideal combination when it comes to stage racing. All three stages start and finish in Montbrun-les-Bain. Riders and their families stay in a GFNY Village that takes care of all necessities so the athletes can fully focus on racing. Families can enjoy nearby cultural and historic attractions, quaint French villages, gastronomy and beautiful nature.

“Early fall is a magical time here in Provence,” adds GFNY Head of Europe and organizer Nico Garcera. “Temperatures are still very pleasant and the main tourist season is behind us, which makes for ideal racing and post-race experience for riders and accompanying family members alike. In my former pro cycling career, I raced over 50 stage races so I know exactly what the riders need to get the best out of themselves.”
