GFNY Announces 2019 Championship Races on Five Continents

Regional GFNY Championships have a more competitive Pro/Elite field and provide more Racer Corral qualification slots

(NEW YORK CITY, March 6, 2019) – In 2019, there are now five regional GFNY Championships staged on five continents, giving a truly global GFNY reach to cyclists around the world.

The five regional championship events attract a stronger Pro/Elite field at the front and offer a larger number of qualification slots for the Racer Corral at the GFNY World Championship in NYC and all other GFNYs. To qualify for the racer corral, riders participating in the competitive long-distance route must finish in the top 20% of their age group (non-championship events:10%).

Overall man and woman champions of the regional Championships are awarded a fully paid trip and entry to the Campagnolo GFNY World Championship.

The first regional championship is in South America. GFNY LATIN AMERICA CHAMPIONSHIP COLOMBIA takes place on March 24. The 138km competitive long route has 2431m of ascent, including the legendary La Cuchilla at 3,365m. 2500 riders are expected to line up and compete for the crown. The top 20% of finishers from each age group will qualify for the 2019 GFNY World Championship Racer Corral on May 19.

GFNY MIDDLE EAST – AFRICA CHAMPIONSHIP JERUSALEM takes place on May 3rd. A race like no other, riders experience a journey against the clock through the most historic city in the world. The 126km competitive long route has 2219m of climbing. The top 20% of age group category finishers will qualify for the 2020 GFNY World Championship Racer Corral.

On May 19, the 9th annual CAMPAGNOLO GFNY WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP NYC takes place. Starting on George Washington Bridge, the Mecca of GFNY features the world’s most international peloton with 5000 riders from 97 countries. The 162km competitive long route has 2700m climbing. The top 20% of age group category finishers will qualify for the 2020 GFNY World Championship Racer Corral.

The addition of GFNY Santa Fe, New Mexico to the 2019 calendar marks the second event in the United States after GFNY NYC, and the first-ever GFNY CHAMPIONSHIP NORTH AMERICA SANTA FE, taking place on June 23. Host city Sante Fe, New Mexico provides a formidable challenge for riders who excel at altitude. The 131km competitive long route has 2288m climbing and features a mountaintop finish at Ski Santa Fe at the 3155m..The top 20% of age group category finishers will qualify for the 2020 GFNY World Championship Racer Corral.

GFNY EUROPE CHAMPIONSHIP PORTUGAL takes place on September 8. The sports-loving coastal community of Cascais will host riders for the European race extravaganza. The competitive long route of 162km will have 2281m of climbing. 

The top 20% of age group category finishers will qualify for the 2020 GFNY World Championship Racer Corral.

The final regional championship of 2019 is in South East Asia. GFNY ASIA CHAMPIONSHIP PHILIPPINES takes place on September 22 in Bohol. Riders can expect fast racing in tropical conditions with amazing crowd support. The competitive long route covers 140km over 1554m of climbing. The top 20% of age group category finishers will qualify for the 2020 GFNY World Championship Racer Corral.

Campagnolo GFNY World Championship NYC

The 9th annual Campagnolo GFNY World Championship New York will be held on May 19, 2019. The race features the world’s most international peloton with riders from over 90 countries. Athletes take on a challenging 100-mile route from NYC to Bear Mountain to Fort Lee to compete against each other, the clock and themselves in a personal endurance challenge.
