Guinness Sensation Adds to Her List of Accomplishments by Racing with a Double Stroller in World-Record Time

WHITEFISH, Mont. (Sept. 3, 2019) – Cynthia Lauren Arnold, a runner who has become well known for her blazing fast speeds in long distance races – all while pushing her children in a jogging stroller, has set yet another world record. Arnold was recently notified that she achieved the Guinness World Record for the fastest half marathon pushing a double stroller at the Whitefish Marathon in May 2019.

The Whitefish Marathon, formerly known as the Two Bear Marathon, took place on May 11, 2019 and included a marathon, a half marathon and a 5K. Arnold, who resides in Polson, Montana, ran the half marathon pushing her two younger children, ages 3 and 1, in a double stroller and finished the race in a time of 1:25:36.61. Not only did she set a new Guinness World Record, she also set a new course record for the Whitefish Half Marathon and was the women’s overall champion.

Although the race took place in May, Arnold and Whitefish race organizers had to wait for results to be officially certified by the Guinness World Records Management Team. She received word that her results were officially accepted by the organization and she is now the proud owner of two Guinness World Records with another one pending.

“I have run with all three of my children in strollers since they were born,” said Arnold. “I did not want to give up running just because I became a parent. I have been lucky to be able to find great races that allow a stroller here in my own back yard. The Whitefish Half Marathon is a beautiful race and the kids had lots to look at while we ran.”

“We were so excited to have Cynthia race with us in the Whitefish Half Marathon this year, and the fact that our race was held over Mother’s Day weekend made her setting this record even more special,” said Art Krueger, Director of The Wave Fitness and Aquatic Center, primary sponsor of the race. “She won the race, set a course record and set a new Guinness World Record, all while pushing two children in a jogging stroller. While this seems unbelievable to many of us, it is just another example of her strength and determination.”

The Whitefish Marathon was rebranded in 2019 and moved from the fall to the spring. This change was made due to the growing intensity and duration of the wildfire season in the fall in Montana and the desire of race organizers to decrease the uncertainty felt by some runners in the fall season. The date change was a success and the 2020 race has been scheduled for Saturday, May 16.
