Carmel Marathon Welcomes Purdue University Staff and Employees in 2023 as a New Event Partner

February 9, 2023

University employees and family members to receive race discounts, training support, team shirts and more

CARMEL, Ind. (February 9, 2023) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Spectators and fellow race participants can expect to see more gold and black at the start line of the 2023 Carmel Marathon Weekend thanks to a new partnership with Purdue University’s Healthy Boiler Wellness Program. Employees and their family members will receive incentives and perks to participate in any distance event of the Carmel Marathon Weekend, including discounted event registrations, exclusive Team Boilermaker shirts, training support, and special race day recognition.

The 13th annual Carmel Marathon Weekend, to be held on Saturday, April 8, offers an event for walkers and runners of all abilities and skill levels, and includes the Indiana Members Credit Union 5K, Indiana Spine Group 10K, the Carmel Half Marathon and the Carmel Marathon Presented by Franciscan Health. The race is held on the streets and trails of the popular Indianapolis suburb of Carmel, Ind., just one hour from Purdue University’s flagship campus in West Lafayette, Ind.

The Healthy Boiler Program is a multi-faceted approach to overall well-being composed of five pillars: behavioral health, financial wellness, physical health, social wellness and work-life integration. The program, introduced in January 2018, provides benefits-eligible employees and spouses an opportunity to improve their health and wellness and earn financial incentives at the same time.

“We are excited to have the Healthy Boiler Program as a supporting partner of the event,” said Candace Shaffer, senior director of benefits in Human Resources. “Offering discounted entry fees for the Carmel Marathon events aligns with our goals of the Healthy Boiler Program not only to promote health and wellness among our Purdue community but also to provide opportunities that support that goal. Giving our faculty and staff the ability to participate in a wellness event at a discounted rate is a great way to do that.”

“Race day is just one part of this program—the culmination of the days, weeks and months of training together as a group, in person or virtually,” said Todd Oliver, race director for the Carmel Marathon Weekend. “Corporate wellness programs are a great way to help folks start down the path of an active lifestyle. The Healthy Boiler program is more than getting people to the finish line; it’s an opportunity to focus on the camaraderie, shared goals and encouraging each other on a daily or weekly basis to stay active.”

Spectators and fellow participants will be able to recognize members of the Healthy Boilers group wearing customized gold and black race bibs on race morning. Purdue University employees and their family members can learn more and register for the Carmel Marathon Weekend via the Healthy Boiler Wellness Program portal at Purdue.WellRight.com.
