The Kinetic Triathlon Festival includes three races, May 13-14
SPOTSYLVANIA, Virginia — More than 1,300 athletes will participate in the Kinetic Triathlon Festival this weekend at the scenic Lake Anna State Park.
Three events are on the schedule: Half-Iron distance and International races on Saturday, and a Sprint race on Sunday. Kinetic is one of the most poplar race weekends on the entire Virginia-Maryland Triathlon Series calendar.
Information about each event:
- May 13, Kinetic Half: 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, 13.1-mile run. 7 a.m. start.
- May 13, Kinetic International: 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-kilometer bike, 10-kilometer run. 7:30 a.m. start.
- May 14, Kinetic Sprint: 750-meter swim, 15.5-mile bike, 5-kilometer run. 9 a.m. start.
The swim course for each event takes place in Lake Anna, one of Virginia’s largest freshwater inland reservoirs at 13,000 acres. Water temperature is expected to be in the mid-60s, guaranteeing wetsuit-legal racing for athletes.
The bike courses traverse rolling country roads around the lake, while the run courses stay within Lake Anna State Park. Both routes are on smooth pavement.
The Half and International races are the first triathlons of those respective distances this season in the entire mid-Atlantic region. There are several places for spectators to stake out a spot and cheer on their athletes in Lake Anna State Park, while campsites and cabins are available for lodging options.
