The Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot, founded and produced by the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Foundation, selected RunSignUp for their Online Registration Provider. In addition to the Turkey Trot, the Silicon Valley Leadership Group also produces the Tivo Santa Run Silicon Valley and the Lam Research Heart and Soles 5K. Registration for their 12th Silicon Valley Turkey Trot is now open, and includes a bundle to allow concurrent registration in both the Turkey Trot and the Santa Run.
The largest timed Thanksgiving Day event in the country, the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot draws tens of thousands of runners and walkers will celebrate their holiday in the streets of Downtown San Jose through participation in one of several events: Kids Fun Run, 5K Run/Walk, 10K Run, 10K Wheelchair, and an elite PA/USATF 5K championship. Registration across events is capped at 30,000 participants.
Chris Weiler, recently brought on board as the Race Manager for the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot, brings a strong attention to detail to the event. He commented, “We chose RunSignUp for our Registration Provider because of the capability of their technology, and the flexibility within their platform.” Specifically, the race is looking forward to engaging the RunSignUp promotional tools like Referral Rewards with automatic refunding and the Race Day Check-In options.
The event is not just for families; the Fittest Firm Challenge also encourages area employers to get their employees to participate together. The Applied Marathon Silicon Valley Turkey Trot is taking advantage of RunSignUp’s Corporate Team tool to help employers of similarly-sized businesses compete to see who can really call themselves the Fittest Firm in the Valley. Top teams in each category can also qualify for a Race Day Company Tent to post company logos and gather teams.
First held in 2005, the Applied Materials Silicon Turkey Trot currently raises money for five local charities: Healthier Kids Foundation Santa Clara County, Housing Trust Silicon Valley, Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, Second Harvest Food Bank Santa Cruz, and The Health Trust. For 2016, they are looking forward to utilizing RunSignUp’s automated fundraiser refund tools as an incentive to drive more donations during registration, and increase their total charity contribution. In the first 11 years, the event donated $5 million to their local charities; their goal for 2016 is to donate an additional $1,000,000 to the five charities.
